The first people to settle the city were new immigrants of the First Aliyah, way back in the late 1800s, since then the city has grown rapidly to be the fourth largest city in Israel. Rishon LeZion is considered a metropolitan center of Israel. Rishon LeZion has thriving cultural areas, malls, parks, and an active nightlife. This city has numerous parks, malls, museums and of course the beach, plenty of restaurants and bars, and shopping centers. Even though Rishon LeZion is a large city by Israeli standards it still maintains a strong sense of community. This city has a special mix of different sets of people like a large community of former Soviet Union immigrants, new immigrants from Ethiopia, sabras (native Israelis) and more.

Live in Rishon LeZion
Rishon LeZion is one of the nicest cities to live in Israel. If you are one of the Masa Israel Teaching Fellows participants living in Rishon LeZion, you will enjoy living in apartment buildings located in the center of town. These apartment buildings are a short walking distance from one another and are very close to the central streets of downtown Rishon LeZion. This will make it easy for you to be amongst your colleagues as well as have access to cafes, bars, great restaurants, and shops. In addition to this, you will have convenient access to public transportation to get to and from the beach in Rishon LeZion and Tel Aviv. Rishon LeZion boasts one of the largest movie theater complexes in Israel (the Cinema City).
Living accommodations for Masa Israel Experience Fellows in Rishon LeZion are 3-4 bedroom apartments with multiple bathrooms and, communal areas (kitchen and living room). Each apartment can accommodate between 5 to 7 participants (two participants per room). The apartments are basically furnished and equipped with a washing machine, kitchen utensils, and wireless internet access.
